marcel the shell

being the newbie

greetings friends and fam,

as most of you know, i recently started a new job as a graphic designer on the "card & party" team in Hobby Lobby's creative department. (my team designs greeting cards, journals, gift wrap, gift bags, party supplies, wedding supplies, seasonal party stuff, etc.) my first two days were a whirlwind of new faces. after my cinnamon roll 'reception', i was introduced to the workflow organization and given my first three projects. it was a barrage of new information but i'll settle in soon enough. :) i set up my cubicle right next door to my friend Kristen "Priddy" Baucum, who was in Pi Zeta Phi with me at OC. i'm so happy to have a good friend at work already, and now we're cubicle neighbors and we work on the same team!!

its definitely a different work environment for me - first of all, the office is a massive complex. when the office manager's secretary took me to get my I.D. badge made, we had to drive there!! the work day is much more structured than i'm used to, with everyone in the department taking morning and afternoon breaks and lunch at relatively the same time. no one gets to the office very early and everyone leaves on time. it's definitely an adjustment for me, but i like it - it creates a sense of community.

after two days, i've remembered what its like to pack a lunch, spent two hours commuting, and finished my first project proof. i'm already looking forward to monday!!

for a semi-gray day

10-10-10

usually i would attempt to place some kind of significance on a date like today's, but there's really no reason to do so. perhaps i just like things to feel more important than they are. perhaps this gives me a feeling of dramatic eminence, as though i hold more sway over my circumstances than i actually do.

or perhaps i'm just dramatic enough to want everything to be significant in some small way. i'm betting on the latter.

google searches: insight into the human condition

just for funsies, i started typing some queries into google to see what the most common searches were. have a look:

new new new

this is my recently-refreshed attempt to blog. since my newly-Northern-Irish friend cassie has found the time to write several blogs per week with little to no internet access and tons of international adventures, i figure i can find the time to blog during my mostly-free weekday evenings.

SO many new things in my life right now... namely, a new home, a new job, and a new spiritual direction.

the house:
i found it in a craigslist ad, and its just amazing. i'm the only bedroom upstairs, and i have my own bathroom with shower and walk in closet!! hallelujah!! the rent will save me $70-$150 a month on utilities compared to my apartment. i'm sharing the 3000 sq ft house with 3 other girls, one of whom owns the house. my new roomies are christen, weijuan, and kelly. more stories to come, i'm sure.



the job:
as of next thursday, i will be a graphic designer at Hobby Lobby's corporate office!! the best part is that i'll be in the creative department, not the advertising department - i'll be designing the actual products that are sold in the stores!! i'm going to be on the "card & party" team, designing greeting cards, journals, gift wrap, gift bags, party supplies, wedding supplies, and seasonal party stuff. i'm so excited!! and the process went SO fast... i hadn't even really wrapped my mind around switching jobs and i already had one!! farewell, Love's... its been swell.

the spiritual journey:
i'm just getting started with a new d-group in my house church (gennao), so i'm getting to know some new people. plus, i just started a very loving mentorship with an elder at Bridgeway named Susan. she has a cloud of love surrounding her, and i know God will use her to help me get to a healthier place.
